Here are the results of the Newberry High Football Jamboree from Friday night:
In game one, Clinton shut-out Dreher, 14-0. The Red Devils rushed for 154 yards on twenty-four carries, as Taviouzie (Ta-va-zee-A) Booker scored on runs of four and one yards. Hayden Rogers converted both PATs. The Clinton defense held the Blue Devils to 29 yards of offense.
In game two, there was a reshuffling of the schedule as Mid-Carolina faced A.C. Flora as opposed to Chapin.
The Rebels took their first offensive possession all the way down to the Falcons’ 28-yard line in nine minutes before failing to convert on a 4th down attempt.
AC Flora forced Mid-Carolina to punt in the waning seconds from their own 41-yard line on a 4th and ten. A Falcon player outran the Rebels 85-yards for the touchdown with 10.4 seconds to go in the game. The Falcons’ PAT ended the scoring at 7-0. Mid-Carolina had 83 yards of offense, including the 33-yards of rushing from Jeffrey Hentz. The Rebels’ thorn though was penalties as they were penalized five times for 42-yards.
Chapin shut-out Whitmire in game three, 20-0. The Eagles had 194 yards of offense, including 73 through the air. Whitmire quarterback Marcus Lindsay threw for 52 yards on just three completions.
In the night cap, Newberry defeated region foe Gilbert, 21-6.
The Bulldogs rotated all night long between the quarterbacking skills of Jeff Kiser, Lance Brehmer and Treyvon Smith. These three combined for leading the Bulldogs to 199 yards of offense.
On the very first play of the game, Montagus Caldwell took the ball 59 yards to put the ‘Dogs just eleven yards from the end zone. Two plays later, Colby Rosemond scored on a twelve yard run as Will Senn converted the PAT for the 7-0 score just 1:17 into the game.
After forcing Gilbert to punt on their first offensive possession, Newberry would score just two plays later as Travis Burton scored on a 50-yard run. Senn’s PAT made the score 14-0 with 14:59 left in the game.
Gilbert would score their lone touchdown on their next possession but the ‘Dogs would get that score right back as Rosemond would score on a one-yard run with 7:45. Joseph Foster ended the scoring for the evening with his PAT.
Caldwell led the Newberry rushing with 61-yards on just two carries. Rosemond ended the night with 43-yards rushing on six carries but he would score twice.
Newberry will play Mid-Carolina Saturday night in the region jamboree at Gilbert, NHS and MCHS will square-off in the night cap.
