Newberry High lost 7-2 to Ware Shoals this past Friday night at the Greenwood Jamboree.
Newberry's Lance Brehmer recovered a Ware Shoals fumble on their opening possession. The 'Dogs failed to convert a 4th and 9 from the Hornets' 10-yard line.
The Hornets were forced to punt on their next possession. The snap though sailed over the Ware Shoals' punter's head. Newberry was awarded a safety after he kicked the punt out of the endzone.
The remaining two possessions for each team in the first quarter resulted in some sort of turnover including both Tyrone Neal and Colby Rosemond recovering Ware Shoals fumbles.
After Newberry failed to convert a 4th and 14 with 7:44 left in the game, Ware Shoals would score on a 4-yard run five plays later and the 7-2 lead after the succesful PAT.
As a team, Newberry rushed the ball seventeen times for 64 yards, including getting 27 yards from Montagus Caldwell. Quarterbacks Lance Brehmer, Tyler Bishop and Treyvon Smith combined to go 4-9 for 44 yards passing with Kerry Workman making all of the receptions.
Ware Shoals as a team rushed for 186 yards on 25 carries and went 2-4 from the air for 40 yards.
Abbeville defeated Emerald 20-7 while Greenwood shut-out Manning 7-0 in the other two games of the jamboree.
